the root of all evil

20 March 2020

The root of all evil I have always have heard was the love of money. I think that at an even deeper level the root of all evil is actually selfishness. This is a very complicated topic to consider, considering that every single choice one makes begins toward themself. I think that women and more specifically mothers are a step ahead of men in that they give birth to children and literally experience a selfless connection to their very own children as infants. Men also have the capacity for literal selflessness in loving and caring for people outside of themselves. True love that is beyond the selfish craving for pleasure or fulfillment is available for everyone, it is just a matter of choice each and every moment. The wheel of life involves choices each and every moment for people in how it is they want to live. This is also true for all animal life on the planet earth. The way one spends their time while they are living is between them and the omnipotent, all-pervading, creator. I just think that considering things in a more selfless way is better for a persons moral charactor and choices rather than a selfish one. I can certainly say that I fall short of this each and every single day in some type of way.

We all fall short of perfection because we are human. Of hope, faith, and love, they all require a large portion of selflessness I believe. Selfishness also plays a part in love but life is not perfect. Just do the best that you can while you live because thats all that you can do. To have been given the opportunity to love people is something worth being full of gratitude for. Love is certainly a blessing in time. I just want to restate the four noble truths taught by Siddartha Gautama once more:

1- in life there is suffering.

2- the cause of suffering is craving.

3- there is an end to suffering.

4- there is a path to follow.

Jesus Christ taught the idea that to love your neighboor as you would yourself or to treat others as you would want to be treated. The idea of love seems once again to be pointed toward in a selfless type of way or path to follow.

Cheers!
